Serena Jameka Williams born September 26, 1981 is an American professional ranked No. 1 in women's singles tennis. The Women's Tennis Association (WTA) has ranked her world No. 1 in singles on six separate occasions.

Serena was born in Saginaw Michigan to Richard Williams and Oracene price and is the youngest of the five daughters , half sister Yetunde, Lyndrea and Isha price and full sister Venus, when the children were young the family moved to Compton California, where Williams started playing tennis at the age of 3 and her father Richard served as her part time coach while home schooling she and sister Venus

  She became the world No. 1 for the first time on July 8, 2002, and achieved this ranking for the sixth time on February 18, 2013.
Williams is regarded by some commentators and sports writers as the greatest female tennis player of all-time

It took long enough, but Serena Williams has surpassed Maria Sharapova and is now the highest paid female athlete in the world after earning a whopping $28.9 million in the past 12 months.

Sharapova had held the top spot for 11 years, but has seen her earnings fall to $21.9 million down almost $8 million from last year due to a doping scandal that was unveiled in March.

 The UFC’s Ronda Rousey came in third on the list, while NASCAR driver Danica Patrick sits in fourth.
