Japan unveils official logos

Following the claimed that the design was similar to his 2013 logo for the Theatre de Liege. Belgian designer Olivier Debie and the theatre had filed a lawsuit to prevent it being used. Hence, the organisers issued a statement on their decision, saying, "We have reached a conclusion that it would be only appropriate for us to drop the logo and develop a new emblem. At this point, we have decided that the logo cannot gain public support."

This brewed some repercussions for lucrative sponsorship deals as Japan Airlines as well as other sponsors have started using the logo for trade.

Well, Organisers say there will be another competition to decide a new logo "as soon as possible" which gave birth to the unveil which replaces the first choice which that was thrown out with accusation of plagiarism.

Speaking of blessings in disguise, The Designer Asao Tokolo said that when he found out he had won the re-opened contest "my mind has gone blank".

"I put a lot of time and effort into this design as though it was my own child." he said.

The logo dispute came shortly after Tokyo decided to scrap the designs for the main Olympic stadium because of spiralling construction costs.

A cheaper design, by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, was chosen in December last year.

The New Design used traditional Japanese colours and patterns to represent the intercultural themes of the Games.

"It incorporates the message of 'unity in diversity'," they said, and the idea that the Games "seek to promote diversity as a platform to connect the world".
