FG Extends The Eid Ul Fitr Public Holiday

Following the Sultan of Sokoto's declaration of the non-sighting of the moon, and the extension of the fast, the Federal Government has extended the public holiday till 7th July.

The public holiday was formerly till Wednesday 6th July, starting Tuesday 5th July, but has now been extended.

The Minister of Interior, retired Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd), made the declaration on Tuesday in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Bassey Akpanyung.

He said the declaration became necessary ‎following the directive by the President General, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III to the effect that the Ramadan fast would continue on Tuesday as a result of the non-sighting of the moon.

The minister urged Nigerians to use this period wisely, to promote peace in the country, also wishing all Nigerians a happy celebration.
