Soldiers Arrest 92 Who Claim to be Herdsmen, Could be Boko Haram Members

Captain Bashir Jajira, the Assistant Director of Public Relations of the Nigerian Army National Guards Brigade has announced the arrest of 92 people who claim to be herdsmen on the way to Nasarawa to recover their stolen livestock. Some were  arrested on the Abuja - Nasarawa road while the others were arrested around the airport.

In the spokesman's words:

“A group of 36 herdsmen in Diana Truck and Toyota Camry car with registration number Abu Kuje 994 FX and Niger SUL 541 XA were intercepted and arrested at 177 Guards Battalion location by Keffi checkpoint. During the interrogation by troops at the checkpoint, they claimed to be going to Nasarawa Local Government in Nasarawa State.”

It will be recalled that there are very many instances of attacks in recent time by people who claim to be Fulani herdsmen but who may be Boko Haram members. Genuine instances of Fulani herdsmen killing farmers and sacking entire villages had however been reported in various parts of the country.
