Female Bus Conductor Breaks Academic Record
Nigeria is never in want of very brilliant minds as demonstrated a while back when Ayodele Dada graduated with a 5.0 from the University of Lagos. Now we have a new academic hero, this time from the Lagos State Polytechnic and this hero is even a very unusual one. Please meet Miss Omosalewa Babalola, 26, from Ibadan, Oyo, a part-time BRT ticket operator who recently graduated with a 4.0. That’s 4.0 out of 4.0 as the school uses a 4-point scale.
Born to a polygamous father of seven children who works as a printer and a petty trader mother, Salewa had to suspend her secondary education to pick up odd jobs while in SS2. She eventually ended up as a ticket clerk with the Lagos State Bus Rapid Transit System (BRT). According to her, she had taken JAMB exams earlier but had to put her admission on hold due to finance issue.
According to a report by Vanguard Newspapers, the lady said she never crammed she said, she read, and employed techniques in understanding each and everything making them sound like narratives, just like watching a movie.
In her own words “success in life is not by chance, it’s by hard work, perseverance, commitment and dedication. For one to gain extra ordinary result one has to put in extra ordinary effort. My hobbies include, reading. I have no specific time for reading but I love my course and I have a passion for it. Your state of mind also contributes”. Lastly she said “obstacles are what we see when we take our eyes off the goal. I use this statement as a motivator each time I’m faced with challenges.”
