At Last! Black American Woman To Be on The Face of $20 Bill

Anti-slavery crusader Harriet Tubman has been selected to be the very first African-American to be on an American paper currency. Tubman will be replacing former President Andrew Jackson who has been criticised for his treatment of Native Americans and his ownership of slave, on the $20 bill.

Tubman was born into slavery in the 1820s and later worked assiduously to free many slaves. Jackson the slave owner won't however be leaving the currency totally as he'll be moving to the back, where we honestly think he belongs.

Also to carry a new look is the $10 bill which will carry on its back, images of five female leaders of the women's suffrage movement, including Sojourner Truth and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Alexander Hamilton, one of Americas founding fathers will remain on the front.

The reverse of a new $5 note will show former first lady Eleanor Roosevelt and civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., officials said. Former President Abraham Lincoln will remain on the front.

Tubman was said to have been chosen out of hundreds of other candidates. The selectors were particularly impressed by her leadership and work helping others. She was also a spy for the Union Army during the American civil war.
