Usain Bolt Heads To Rio Olympics With Jamaica Despite Injury Scare

The fastest man in the world, Usain Bolt’s quest for more Olympic medals and records is back on track as the superstar will now defend both his Olympic 100m and 200m titles and the 4x100m relay title after being named in the Jamaica team for Rio 2016 Olympics.

The Jamaican Olympic Committee released its delegation for the Games in Rio on Monday, with Bolt leading the 63-man cast even though an injury kept him from formally qualifying at his country’s national championships during the trials.

According to the BBC, Bolt, 29, was one of four athletes to be given a medical exemption to make the squad.

The several records breaker is listed as a qualifier in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash and 4×100-meter relay. He has six Olympic gold medals, sweeping those events at the Beijing Games in 2008 and the London Games in 2012.

Bolt withdrew from Jamaica’s national meet on July 1 with an injury – a grade-one tear – pulling out just before the 100-meter final.

The reigning 100 and 200 world champion is scheduled to compete at the London Anniversary Games July 22 to confirm his fitness level ahead of the Games.
