Mikel Obi And 2 Other Eagle Stars Confirmed For Rio Olympics

As the preparations for the 2016 Olympics in Brazil gets intensified, countries around the world have started naming strong squad for the Men's football category with the organizers leaving room for three over-aged players.
Nigeria's U23 coach Samson Siasia has confirmed the availability of Super Eagles stars Mikel Obi, Kenneth Omeruo and Daniel Akpeyi for the tournament.
The coach who released a 35-man list ahead of the greatest sporting event inAugust, had earlier lamented the unwillingness of top European clubs to release players. But in an interview with Goal.com the Dream Team VI handler was positive about the participation of the trio.
“We have some players that have promised to join us and they have shown commitment like Wilfred Ndidi who has assured us that he will join us in America. Other players that also promised to come are: goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi, Kenneth Omeruo and Mikel Obi. These are the players that are confirmed for now,” Siasia said.
“If we can get all these players with the ones with us already and we can play the way we want them to play I am sure we will have the chance to fight for the gold medal at stake in the Olympics.
“But like I have been saying it won’t be easy at all at the Olympics but we will try and push this team to the level needed to compete for honours in this high level of competition.
Siasia’s troops are scheduled to face Mexico and Honduras in tune-up games in the United States this month, and the coach disclosed that three of the invited players – Ndidi, Omeruo and Akpeyi – have shown their interest for the games.
