Throwback Thursday: Mum Gave Me These For My Wedding
1. Mortal and Pestle: These used to be one of the biggest necessities in the house because of its numerous wonderful and beautiful uses especially to people from the southern, eastern or south/ western parts of Nigeria who might want to pound yam or wash palm kernel after boiling for palm kernel soup.2.Grinding Stone: Not just in Nigeria, but beyond the African nation, some parts of Asia and Europe even America also knew what it was like to grind your food stuffs on stone, back then as a child, my mum would ask us to grind pepper and tomato for stew, it was just different compared to the grinding machines and blenders we use today. But not in this modern generation when mothers go to work and come late, looking for the easiest way to finish up their chores so they can go bed.
3. Big Cooking Pots: Remember how mummy would package those pots size by size and customize it in your name? People don't cook much in this era, when there is a party, its no longer a must that ten people in the family come together to cook they just call in a caterer to take care of the food.
4. We call it Adogan in Nigeria, its a giant local stove in which woods are arranged before pots are placed on top to make the cooking faster.
5. Those pots don't just come with your names, they used to come with spoons of their own size, turning sticks and frying spoons.
All those things were and are still important to us today but, many young ladies just think they take up space in the house, many young ladies can't go through all the stress when there are easier ways of doing it and when it comes to parties then, leave it to the professional caterers.
