Literary Icon, Elechi Amadi Is Dead
One of Nigeria's and indeed Africa's foremost literary icons (Novelist, poet and dramatist) died Wednesday at the age of 82.
A member of the family, Bar. Wabueze Amadi confirmed it, saying he died at about 3:45pm at the Good Heart Hospital in Port Harcourt.
The Late Captain Elechi Amadi was/will still be regarded as one of the first generation writers.
He will be remembered for the good he did to the many people he met in his lifetime, either physically or through his books.
He was a well known author, publisher, soldier and stateman who was a patriot and it showed in his books:
The Concubine
The Great Ponds
Isibiru
Sunset In Biafra
Dance of Johannesburg
Peppersoup
The Road To Ibadan
The Slave
Estrangement
The Woman Of Calabar
And a collection of poems
He indeed lived a live worthy of emulation as the literary community and the world in general has lost a gem.
May his gentle soul rest in the bossom of the Lord. Amen!
