Daniel Munthe Agger born 12 December 1984 is a retired Danish professional footballer who played as a defender and captained the Denmark national team. He was the vice-captain of Brøndby.Agger has been described as "a fine reader of the game, comfortable on the ball and blessed with a ferocious shot."
He started his senior career with Brøndby in July 2004, winning the Danish superliga
Agger, 31, played for Liverpool between 2006 and 2014 before returning to first club Brondby on a two-year contract after suffering with fitness issues.
The return to his homeland brought no real improvement, though, and the center-back has now announced his retirement.
Agger, who was captain of the Denmark national team, held a news conference in his homeland to explain the decision on Thursday.
“I’m pulling the plug now. It’s been difficult, I’ve had my doubts up until the end. But every time I’ve thought it through I’ve reached the same conclusion, and that is to stop. So I don’t have any doubts that I’m making the right decision.”
He wrote on Twitter: “Thank you for your support.A great experience. It’s sad,but it is the right decision to stop. I’m proud of my career.”
