Don't Give Buhari Any Loan, Fayose Tells China
Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, as written a letter to the government of China asking that the country keeps their money and not give Nigeria any loan as it is not in the long term interest of the people of Nigeria. Ayo Fayose asked that China should concern itself more with helping Nigeria with technology transfer instead.
This is contain in a letter Fayose wrote to the government of China even as President Mohammadu Buhari was basking is the euphoria of a successful loan deal on his return to the country. The letter, dated April 12, 2016, with reference number EK/GOV/28/10 and addressed to President Xi Jinping of the People's Republic of China was hand delivered through the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Gu Xiaojie by the Chief of Staff to the governor, Barrister Dipo Anisulowo in Abuja on Thursday. Fayose also alleged that some of the projects for which the loan was being sought were not captured in the controversial 2016 budget, which has been sent to the President by the National Assembly for his assent.
Meanwhile, Governor Fayose himself is currently off to China to attend the country’s 119th Import and Export Fair, also known as the Canton Fair, scheduled for April 14 and 19, in Guangzhou. In an effort to justify Fayose's trip, the governor’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, said on Tuesday that Mr. Fayose had before now travelled out of the country only twice since he assumed office in October 2014, saying his trip to China, which was planned six months ago, would be his third travel outside Nigeria.
